Winter storage gives a vehicle a break from road salt, freezing temperatures, and harsh driving conditions, but parking a car or truck for several months does not automatically protect its engine. The oil left in the crankcase can affect how well internal components survive the dormant period.

When a vehicle sits, those contaminants remain in contact with bearings, cylinder walls, and other lubricated surfaces.
