Most car owners have a schedule for their car service. Very few of them remember to have their exhaust system checked by an expert in the service, though. Therefore, it is not a wonder for them to wait until the exhausting demand for attention by making a louder noise than ordinary. In the market, some dealers will refer to mufflers as the silencer. The name is derived from the role it plays in the exhaust system. As the car transmits the exhaust fumes from inside the engine to the outside,  great noise gets generated. Muffler vs exhaust system

It is not easy to separate the exhaust system’s muffler as it is a significant component forming the system. The muffler is usually located underneath as part of the exhaust system close to the truck’s rear. It has a characteristic bulge shape that sets it apart from the rest of the piping. 

In a nutshell, the exhaust system includes the underneath pipes from the engine’s manifold to the exhaust tail. All the components joined together to form the exhaust system. Separating the muffler from the rest of the exhaust components in the system is not advocated.

There is a need to control engine sound and the volume of the sound produced. Two different components of the exhaust control the two phenomena. Resonators are responsible for the change of the truck engine’s sound. It modulates the engine sound by changing it to a form that can be muted slightly by the muffler. Automobile engineers have designed space, or an echo chamber that helps change the engine’s exhaust sound allows the powertrain to produce power without releasing much noise.

On the other hand, mufflers are designed to reduce the volume of the sound produced. A combination of the two components results in a more pleasant sound from the car that is mild and pleasant to the environment.

Besides a resonator regulating the engine sound, it also helps boost the engine’s general performance. An exemplary resonator, when fixed, increases the truck’s horsepower while yet using less fuel. The result is a smoother driving and high-efficiency experience.

Now it is evident that both resonator and muffler are essential components in a truck. There is a need to know when to service them or even replace them. A resonator helps in improving the general performance of your car. If there is a noticeable decrease in performance and questionable fuel consumption, check on the resonator. Sometimes the check engine light may come on, indicating all is not well.

A damaged or even a failing resonator cause a car’s sound to change noticeably. Whenever a resonator is malfunctioning and leaking, some fumes are released, which have a characteristic odor and demand immediate attention. In the worst scenario, the engine may stall or fail to start completely when the resonator fails.

It is only fair to conclude that the muffler is an integral component of the entire exhaust system. Although this term exhaust may be used to mean exhaust tail but generally should mean the exhaust system.
