As the use of all-electric cars is on the increase, so is the need for lithium-ion batteries.
They work using 5 components, cathode, anode, separator, current collectors, and electrolyte.
When charging, the cathode, (positive) sends some lithium ions to the anode, (negative) via the electrolyte.
When discharging, this operation is reversed. Repeating this operation creates the electric current needed to power the vehicle.
Lithium-ion batteries weigh little and carry much more current than conventional lead-acid batteries.

How are 12v batteries measured?
The strength and ability of the battery will always be displayed, it can sometimes be confusing.
The most common output and capacity measurement are CCA.
CCA. Cold Cranking Amps. This is achieved by measuring the number of amps the battery delivers without dropping 7.2 volts. It is tested at 0 degrees f. Over 30 seconds.
Therefore a higher CCA reading is better suited for starting applications and in colder temperatures.
CA. Cranking Amps. This is measured in much the same way but at a much higher temperature of 32 degrees f.
RC. Reserve capacity. This is measured as a unit of time. It tests how long the fully-charged battery will discharge 25 amps without dropping to below 10.5 volts. It is measured at 80 degrees f and the figure is given in minutes.
AM. Amp Hour. Found in Deep-Cycle batteries and taken throughout 20-hours.
Divide the AH by 20 to find the total amps per hour output.
Therefore, 100AH is equal to 5 amps per hour.

How to care for your car battery?
A few simple checks are all that is needed to maintain the health of the battery to enable it to have as long service-live as possible.
- Keep it clean. This prevents contaminants or rust spots from building up. Mix 2 tablespoons of baking powder to 1 pint of water and wipe it over.
- Check connections. Most battery issues stem from loose connections or dirty cables.
- Fluid Levels. Keep them topped up with distilled water only; this will prevent any harmful contaminants.
- Do not overfill. If you top up a cell battery do not be tempted to overfill. Obviously, warm water expands in heat; this could cause the electrolytes, acids, to leak out.
- Crank it over. If there is a chance your vehicle might be left stationary for any length of time, consider starting it every few days and leaving it to idle for 5-minutes. This will recharge the depleting battery and help to keep it healthy.

Stop-start technology is designed to reduce emissions and fuel consumption while the car idles.
Even with the engine off, the battery must always have enough residual power to fire up the engine when needed. Therefore, a dedicated stop-start battery is recommended.
